What is Photoluminescent Tape?

Photoluminescent Tape, often referred to as glow-in-the-dark tape, is a safety marking tape designed to guide people to safety during low-visibility situations. The tape emits a visible glow in darkness, helping to highlight escape routes, emergency exits, life-saving equipment, and muster stations.

LightLine Photoluminescent Tape is highly resistant to aging, weather conditions, and mechanical wear. Its strong adhesive backing ensures long-lasting adhesion to a wide variety of surfaces, including those exposed to moisture, heat, or curved shapes. The tape’s flexibility and strength make it particularly well-suited for marine environments, especially where heavy-duty materials are required.

These Tapes are made using PVC, PU or PET materials, available in different dimensions (other widths available on request).

How to use LightLine Photoluminescent Tape

To properly apply LightLine Photoluminescent Tape, follow these steps:

1. Surface preparation: Clean and dry the surface where the tape will be applied. Remove dust, grease, or any loose debris to ensure optimal adhesion.
2. Application: Peel off the backing and press the tape firmly onto the desired surface. Ensure there are no air bubbles and that the tape conforms well to any curves or edges.
3. Activation: The tape charges automatically under ambient or artificial light. Ensure the installation area receives sufficient lighting to allow the photoluminescent layer to recharge regularly.
4. Inspection: Periodically check the tape for signs of damage or wear, especially in high-traffic areas. Replace if the glow performance diminishes over time.

Where to use Photoluminescent Tape

LightLine Photoluminescent Tape is designed for use across a wide range of vessel types, including cruise ships, ferries, oil tankers, and roll-on/roll-off ships. It is commonly used to mark escape routes, door frames, staircases, and equipment that must remain visible in emergencies. Due to its weather-resistant and durable properties, it can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Beyond maritime applications, LightLine Photoluminescent Tape is also suitable for buildings, industrial sites, and public facilities, where low location lighting and emergency exit guidance are required to comply with safety regulations.

Quality

LightLine Photoluminescent Tape comes in two different qualities, Class XXL and Class M. The difference between Class XXL and Class M lies mainly in their luminance performance. Class XXL provides a luminance intensity of 200 mcd/m² after 10 minutes and 30 mcd/m² after 60 minutes. Class M reaches 50 mcd/m² and 7 mcd/m² after the same periods.

The material of our Photoluminescent Tape is designed for both strength and durability. It has an elongation of 24%, which gives it a certain flexibility without compromising stability. With a thickness of 0.175 mm, it remains lightweight yet robust enough for demanding environments. The tensile strength is approximately 5 kg, ensuring reliable performance under tension. Depending on the size, the material weighs 300 g for 40 mm, 375 g for 50 mm, and 600 g for 80 mm, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.
