What is a Pneumatic Line Thrower?
A pneumatic line thrower is a device designed to launch a lightweight line over long distances at sea. It creates a connection between two points, such as between a ship and the shore, two vessels, or during rescue operations. Unlike manual methods, the pneumatic system allows for greater range, accuracy, and power, making it an essential tool for maritime safety and emergency situations.
How does a Pneumatic Line Thrower work?
The BLT 250 Line Thrower operates using compressed air to propel projectiles that carry the line. The system includes four interchangeable launchers, and the projectiles can easily be refilled after use. With a range of approximately 250 meters, it is only slightly affected by crosswinds and achieves maximum speed at the end of the launcher. The BLT 250 can even be used in or near flammable areas since it does not rely on explosive charges. All parts of the system are reusable, and the only recurring cost is refilling the air cylinder using a standard air compressor.
Approvals and Standards
The BLT 250 Line Thrower meets the requirements of SOLAS/IMO regulation 74/83 and is approved by RINA, USCG, and Wheelmark. These certifications ensure that the device complies with international maritime safety standards, guaranteeing reliability and performance during critical operations at sea.
