An International Shore Connection (ISC) is a standardized connection point that allows ships to receive water from external sources.

What is an International Shore Connection?

An International Shore Connection (ISC) is a standardized connection point that allows ships to receive water from external sources, such as a shore-based fire hydrant or another vessel. It is specifically designed to provide a backup water supply to the ship’s fire main in case the onboard water system becomes unavailable.

The ISC from T-ISS is made from BMC glass fiber polyester, ensuring it withstands harsh maritime conditions. Typically supplied in a red cabinet for high visibility, the ISC can be delivered as a complete set including the flange, box, and SafeSign signage, or as separate components.

Why do you need an international Shore Connection onboard your vessel?

During a fire, it’s not uncommon for a vessel’s pumps to malfunction or become inoperable. In such cases, the International Shore Connection provides a reliable backup by allowing water to be supplied from shore or another vessel.

The ISC allows emergency teams to supply water from an external source directly into the ship’s fire main. This means that even in critical situations, such as power loss or pump malfunction, firefighting efforts can continue without delay. The Shore Connection ensures compliance with SOLAS requirements and provides peace of mind that backup support is available when it matters most.

Approvals and standards
