  • ISPS signs

To ensure the highest level of safety and compliance, we approach every different project systematically, with strong project management as the foundation for success.

Project Management and Site Implementation by T-ISS

Our experienced team has the knowledge and expertise to manage complex, time-sensitive safety signage and Low Location Lighting (LLL) projects, fully aligned with your Escape calculations, Fire Control, and Safety plans and procedures. Our project management methods are based on industry best practices, refined through more than 40 years of hands-on experience within the Heijboer Safety Group.

Once the project scope, tasks, and milestones are defined, we assign a dedicated Project Manager who will act as your primary point of contact throughout the project. A multidisciplinary project team is assembled, including specialists from engineering, drawing, production, and installation.

We follow a proven step-by-step approach to deliver effective, efficient, and compliant safety signage systems:

  • Site survey
  • Budgeting
  • Engineering & design
  • Production
  • Installation
  • LLL installation, measurement & class-approval certification (photoluminescent and electrical)
  • Maintenance

For newbuilds, we also supply all relevant delivery documentation and certification required by SOLAS and ISO standards.

Survey

In many cases, we can develop a preliminary sign plan using your ship’s Fire Control  & Safety plan. A full site survey is only necessary if required due to the absence of updated Fire Control and Safety plans or complex onboard conditions, such as special-purpose ships and some offshore constructions.

When a site survey is conducted, we assess the current signage system on board, covering all regulations and other relevant safety aspects. The findings are compiled into a comprehensive sign plan that details the condition, visibility, and regulatory compliance of each signage component, in line with SOLAS and IMO regulations, the FSS Code, the SPS Code, and relevant ISO standards.

If your vessel or offshore installation lacks proper fire control or embarkation plans, we can develop or update them for you.

Budgeting

After reviewing your safety documentation and, if applicable, the results of the site survey, we define the project scope and provide a detailed cost estimation. A complete and compliant signage system typically consists of:

  • Low Location Lighting with signage
    • Photoluminescent LLL
    • Electrical LLL
  • Overhead escape route signs to guide people toward assembly or embarkation stations
    • Electrical escape signs
  • Safety instructions for crew and passengers in cabins and public spaces
  • Operational safety signage (e.g., fire fighting, rescue, control zones, car deck safety, prohibitions, warnings and mandatories)

We always aim for clarity and functionality—avoiding visual overload by using signage purposefully and strategically.

Engineering & Design

Our engineering team translates your drawings and/or survey results into a clear and compliant sign plan. This plan provides a complete overview of the required and existing signage on board, ensuring regulatory compliance and uniform appearance.

We involve our clients in the design phase, allowing you to fine-tune layouts and visuals before installation. For custom signage, we follow your branding guidelines to ensure that all signs, including logo-based elements, are in line with your corporate identity.

With our extensive experience, we can handle even the most complex locations with precision and confidence.

Production

All signage is produced in-house at our certified SafeSign production facilities in the Netherlands, equipped with modern machinery and skilled professionals. Standard signs and LLL are held in stock to ensure fast turnaround, and custom-made signs are produced to your specifications with full material quality assurance.

Our focus on long-life, maintenance-free materials (expected lifetime, also in normal outside circumstances, 15-20 years) means you benefit from a lower total cost of ownership compared to cheaper, lower-quality alternatives. Every product is inspected before leaving our facility, guaranteeing durability and compliance.

T-ISS is ISO 9001 certified by DNV, and many of our signage products hold individual certifications, including:

  • IMO safety signs – DNV
  • Low Location Lighting (photoluminescent and electrical) – DNV
  • Pipe marking (PolyesPro®, co-developed with 3M)
  • SOLAS Retro Reflective Tape – DNV

Installation

To implement your sign plan, our skilled installation teams are deployed globally to ensure all signage is placed correctly and professionally. Armed with site-specific data and prepared for all conditions, our team completes the installation efficiently, with attention to detail for installation and safety.

If local teams are used, we can provide installation supervision to maintain quality and consistency.

Class Approvals

When T-ISS completes the full scope of your safety signage project, we also ensure approval from relevant authorities. Thanks to our knowledge of regulations and standards, years of experience and active role in ISO committees for safety signage, we support clients throughout the classification process.

As an approved party, T-ISS performs Low Location Lighting measurements and testing in accordance with regulations and standards, supplying all required certification documents for your fire control plan, embarkation plan, and signage system. When T-ISS did provide the whole process, starting from engineering, we guarantee Class approvals.

Maintenance

After installation, the sign plan serves as a reference tool for future maintenance. To ensure your system continues to meet visual and regulatory standards, we offer flexible maintenance contracts.

LLL systems must be tested every 5 years. T-ISS engineers perform these tests using DNV-certified testing procedures and qualified testing equipment, ensuring ongoing compliance.
